SOLAR SYSTEM COMPONENTS

Discover how we design our systems to be tougher, more efficient, and more reliable than the rest.

At Spectrum Energy, we only utilize premium solar system components that are designed to withstand anything our New England weather throws our way. The result? Systems that are designed to do exactly what they are supposed to: to reliably produce clean energy, day-after-day, year-after-year.

MODULES

Solar modules, also known as solar panels, work by converting energy from the sun into usable electricity through the photovoltaic effect. The photovoltaic effect is a characteristic of certain materials, known as semiconductors, that allows them to generate an electric current when exposed to sunlight. Solar modules work by:

  • Sunlight hits the solar cells, which are made of semiconducting materials like silicon.

  • The energy from the sunlight knocks electrons free from the atoms in the semiconductor material, creating a flow of electrons.

  • The flow of electrons is captured by the solar cells and turned into a usable electric current.

  • The electric current is sent to a microinverter, which converts the direct current (DC) electricity produced by the solar panels into alternating current (AC) electricity that can be used in homes and businesses.

It's important to note that solar panels work best when they are exposed to direct sunlight. The amount of electricity produced by a solar panel depends on factors such as the angle and orientation of the panel, the amount of sunlight it receives, and the efficiency of the solar cells.

MICROINVERTERS

Microinverters are small devices that are installed beneath each solar module and convert DC power generated by the panels into AC power that is used in your home. They provide a number of advantages including:

  • Function independently and remove the single point of failure resulting in a more reliable solar system.

  • Simplify safety by including built-in Rapid Shutdown capabilities.

  • Easily track production and quickly pinpoint issues with module-level monitoring.

  • Maximize rooftop space and easily adapt to design challenges.

  • Virtually eliminate the risk of an arc-fault fire on your roof by running only safe AC on the roof.

  • The modular design means you can quickly and easily expand your system as your needs grow.

  • A 25 year limited warranty means a better customer experience.

RACKING

Solar panel racking is an essential component of a solar panel system that safely affixes solar panels to different surfaces, such as roofs or the ground. Major racking components consist of flashing, mounts, racking, and clamps. Solar panel racking is a critical component of a solar pv system for the following reasons.

Safety: Proper solar racking safely affixes solar panels to buildings, so your racking system must be compatible with your roof. A well-designed racking system can also prevent damage to your roof during installation.

Efficiency: A well-designed racking system can also provide clear space to run the wiring of your solar panel system, helping to reduce clutter and improve efficiency.

Durability: A solar panel system is a long-term investment, and a well-designed racking system can ensure that your panels stay securely in place for many years.

Aesthetics: Solar panel racking can also play a role in the overall appearance of your solar panel system. A well-designed racking system can be aesthetically pleasing and blend in with the surrounding environment.
